We’re thrilled to announce Marydonna has completed the model and education portion of her extensive HAUS Salon Colorist Apprenticeship! She is now seeing color clients at a discounted rate on Mondays at our Northeast location.

Marydonna has always had a love for all things hair and beauty. Growing up in Wayzata, she spent hours online watching tutorials and became the go-to for competition hairstyling amongst her gymnastics teammates. After high school she ventured to St. Thomas, but she couldn’t shake the desire to grow her career behind the chair as a hairstylist. Once she had earned her Business Degree, she knew exploring her passion to become a hairstylist was a path she could not leave unturned.

After completing her cosmetology education at the Aveda Institute here in Minneapolis, Marydonna has spent the last few years completing our rigorous training program at HAUS. She has worked hard to hone her skills and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her to begin taking clients!

Marydonna has a passion for helping her clients discover their perfect hair tone and is continuously inspired by the myriad possibilities hair color can provide her clients. While she can execute any color you’ve been envisioning, her speciality resides in lived-in looks. Whether you’re looking for a beachy bronde, vibrant blonde or rich brunette, she’d love to help you achieve the hair you’ve been dreaming of!

Marydonna is excited to connect with new clients, and would love to chat with you about your own life passions. When she's not in the salon she enjoys resetting her energy with me-time, sweating it out at the gym, crafting or enjoying time at home watching the newest binge-worthy shows.

Q+A with Marydonna

Why did you pursue a career behind the chair?
While at University of St. Thomas I was really struggling to find a passion within my major. After a lot of reflecting I grew the nerves to tell my parents "I've always wanted to be a hairstylist." They were very supportive of my decision but encouraged me to finish my last year of college first, which I couldn't be more grateful for. I started at the Aveda Institute less than a month after graduating. Growing up I would spend hours watching YouTube videos; everything from different ways to curl your hair, learning every different braid in the book, to watching people color their own hair. As a gymnast I remember always loving putting my teammates' hair and my own in braids and buns for our competition. I would always love going to the salon as a kid to get haircuts or getting some of my first highlights. Sometimes I'm shocked I didn't come to the realization that being a hairstylist was a dream job earlier in life given all the signs, but I truly do love it.

What are your favorite hair colors to create?
I love creating anything lived-in on my clients whether that's blonde, bronde, or brunette; From high contrast to blended looks. I love all the possibilities every client that sits down may have. Remember to book a root down if you're looking for lived-in color, it makes the blend seamless and prolongs how long you can go in between your appointments–– it's a win-win!

Where are you from and what is your favorite thing to do there?
I grew up in Wayzata. My favorite memory would be biking down to Ben and Jerry's in the summer to get ice cream with my family and friends while enjoying a nice summer night by the lake.

What topics or hobbies would you love to connect with your clients over?
I love learning about my clients, what got them to where they are today, and their passions in life. I also love learning about their hair routines, what is working for them currently and what isn't.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of the salon?
I love the high energy of our salon environment, but outside of the salon I normally need me-time, so I can come back and give my best to my clients. That being said; I love going to the gym (taking workout classes or weight training), any type of craft, reading, and of course binging the newest tv series.

What's a fun fact about yourself?
I actually started in the cutting apprenticeship here at HAUS, before switching into the color apprenticeship. I was conflicted at first on what program to choose but I have truly found my passion in hair color. My 6 months in the cutting apprenticeship has helped me tailor color to specific haircuts.
